MEETINGS, DISCUSSIONS AND TASTINGS

The programme of the sixth NOA (New Opera Action) Festival will be supplemented with an intensive programme of meetings with creative groups, discussions and tastings. Its goal is a deeper analysis of the works presented at the festival, embarrassing questions and straightforward answers, intriguing musical and theatrical provocations. Also, the attempt to ask the fundamental question: what is opera and what is its dominant component - Music or Theatre?

So that it is not a rhetorical question this year the musicologist Veronika Janatjeva and theatre critic Vlada Kalpokaitė will moderate the festival meetings and discussions, and will reveal the dialectical principle - "unity of opposites".

Now and again I hear the question (which I partly share): what use are those endless talks, discussions and discourse, and information exchange is just a formal thing that produces no results. What is their goal: self advertising or simply flattering one's vanity, group therapy of the relationship between (often problematic) artists and the public or finally case analysis, critical reflexion, an attempt to reception/perception? Naturally, the goals of discussions and their "genre" greatly depend upon the participants' attitudes, readiness for an open dialogue, and the wish to perceive other things, different things. In order to approach the third of the goals mentioned, this year the "Operomanija" took the initiative in organising a discussion club and look for a name to what it has been successfully producing since 2007 - experimental musical theatre that has come to be known as the New Opera Action. All that is left is to get interested and inquisitive audiences, who are active, not passive.
